Our new Sony "BLUE"  F-800 camera is exceeding expectations.  We had tested it for Sony last June and when it hit the market late last year, we put it right into the fire for an assignment with WGN-TV, Chicago.  The shoot was a mix of fast moving, behind-the-scenes shooting, hand-held in available light; and studio portraits of the anchors with a full complement of production and electronic cinema accessories. The results and enthusiastic compliments from a very tough-to-please creative department at WGN, confirmed we had made the right choice.  The F-800 has been on commercial work, corporate assignments and run n' gun missions and has performed exceptionally well.   According to Rick, "The best feature of the Blue is all the features, tools and toys the camera offers at the flip of a switch...Time Lapse, Slow Motion, Slow Shutter (a film effect we enjoy using), Picture Cache, File Based Acqusition, Super Fast workflow on set and in post.   This camera delivers a lot of power and opens a large pallet of creative tools, it's FAST FAST FAST and delivers a picture and color space that is stunning.   I really like that there are NO hard drives to fail, NO technicians needed just to download files, NO waiting for downloads/reloads, NO need for back-up (the optical disc containing your footage IS the archive and has the highest reliability of any file format, period.  Also, NO file conversion, processing, re-formatting, failures or delays when you get to post  (translation:  COST SAVINGS).  The files literally transport from the optical disc direct to the Avid--and the files are created in the camera so they are Avid-friendly, they load in about 1/3 real time which means editing commences immediately. . .these and other features are saving producers hundreds of dollars which they can reinvest elsewhere to improve their project.  This is one of those few high-end cameras that we can take on location, roll through the mud with . . . then the next day, take it to the studio and trick it out with a studio rig and deliver terrific images.
