"Indiana State University's "Real Investment" :30 was awarded a Bronze in the Best Commercial category at the CASE V Awards in Chicago," according to Mark Edwards, Director of Marketing at ISU. The spot was developed by Educational Marketing Group, Denver, CO, and featured the ISU business college in dramatic fashion. Real students were cast to play the roles, both as extras and in speaking parts...no hired talent was used, a trademark of the ads we've done for ISU over the past six years. Rick wanted this ad to look like one that airs during the Sunday morning talk shows. "The classroom is really a lab that is equipped with the latest technology to train students about the workings of the stock exchange. They work in real time with real information and available stock traders around the country. The students assignment was simple: Make Money. As a result of the shooting area being a lab, the shooting space was very limited. No place to put lights, a dolly, tripod or even technicians. Much of the ad is hand-held for that reason but it gave me the opportunity to get aggressive with the camera...and thank goodness for AC, Sharon Alley who nailed every focus pull...all day. The student talent was amazing, the crew was blown away with the performances and they are tough critics...oh, and a good thing those kids were terrific...we had to clear out of the lab to allow the 3pm class access. WHAT A GREAT DAY!" sites Thompson. Rick's production design called on a lot of angles and focus changes...Sharon Alley hit marks every take, all day. Mike Ullrich (Umotion) drove the Avid and delivered a terrific cut; Lighting Director/Gaffer, Scott Davis, lit up the set with just the right drama and Chris Lieber (Ripple FX) composed an edgy post-score track that perfectly captured the attitude, vibe and pay-off. ISU competes with major colleges in the Midwest for this award, including University of Michigan, Indiana University, Ohio State, Kent State and others. Congratulations to everyone involved on a great win!
